Disclaimer

This site is information, not professional advice. Phoenix Fence Guide is an independent publication about walls, fences and gates in metro Phoenix. Nothing on it is engineering advice, legal advice, a code compliance determination, a structural assessment or a bid.

We do not perform this work. We do not build, repair, automate or inspect walls, fences, gates or pool barriers, we do not accept work, and we do not broker, recommend or rank contractors. We take no advertising or referral money from anyone who does. Hiring decisions are yours.

Building codes and ordinances are local and they change. Height limits, setbacks, permit triggers, fee schedules and adopted code editions differ between the cities of this metro and between those cities and unincorporated Maricopa County, and they are amended without notice to us. Every regulatory figure on this site carries its source and the date it was checked, and every one of them must be verified against the authority's current code before you rely on it. Where we could not confirm something, the page says so instead of supplying a plausible number.

Pool barriers are child-safety law. Arizona sets a statutory enclosure standard for residential pools, and some cities add to it. This site explains what the statute says and how to check an existing enclosure against it. It does not and cannot certify that any specific barrier complies. A barrier that measures correctly is still not a substitute for supervision, and no fence, wall, gate or cover prevents drowning on its own.

Structural work carries real risk. Retaining walls, wall extensions, over-height walls and automated gates can fail in ways that injure people. Where a project crosses an engineering threshold, it needs a licensed professional, not a website. Automated gates require monitored entrapment protection, and an operator installed without it is dangerous regardless of what the box says.

Prices are ranges, not quotes. Cost and lifespan figures are drawn from trade and commercial sources, presented as dated ranges, and vary widely with height, finish, soil, access and site conditions. They exist to help you judge a quote, not to replace one.
